What is a Cushion Foundation?

You might or might not have heard of cushion foundations, but they never go out of the trend! The reason may be because of its compact size, travel-friendly packaging, or its easy way of application. Aside from that, cushion foundations are built with a liquid formula which is great if you want to keep that seamless skin look.

If you’re going to think about it, cushion foundations are like liquid foundations in powder foundation packaging! The best thing about is you don’t need a separate sponge or brush to store it since most cushion foundations include a space for a specific sponge.

All about the Laneige Neo Cushion

There are two types of Neo Cushion from Laneige: Matte and Glow. Today we are only focusing on Laneige Neo Matte Cushion. According to Laneige, this is a full-coverage cushion foundation that gives a flawless complexion for 24 hours. They also have a variety of shades that may or may not fit your skin tone.

In addition, this cushion foundation also mentions having an ultra-lightweight formula that also conceals imperfections with a smooth and matte finish. As good as it gets, it is also said to be sweat-proof with SPF42/PA++. Aside from that, this compact product has a stress-free refill since you can easily twist it to refill the cushion foundation.

How To Use

1. Use after the sunscreen and/or makeup base step in your basic skincare routine.
2. Take an adequate amount using the puff and gently dab across the face. You can build up the coverage by lightly dabbing it onto the skin again.
3. If nothing comes out when you deeply press down the cushion sponge using your finger, it means that it is all used up and you should replace with a new refill.

First Impression

Upon opening the product, I noticed how beautiful the packaging was, which also does not feel light and cheap. This Laneige cushion is refillable by twisting and locking the bottom portion, that is a brilliant idea. Compared to other cushions, the design of this product is sleek and clean, perfect for minimalists. Focusing on the applicator, I was fascinated by its design of it. As you can see in the picture below, it has tiny holes when stretching.

The formula is held in a sufficient amount by the micro-cutting puff to achieve immaculate thin layer coverage. Since puffs absorb a lot of products, this specific micro-cutting puff can help even out a thinner application.

Performance

The highlight of the review is the performance of the Laneige neo cushion in matte. The initial application was cooling to the skin, and it was easy to blend all throughout my skin. The coverage is buildable from light to full coverage. Since this is a cushion, dipping the applicator into the sponge may be uneven. I am surprised by how it can cover the redness around the face, and acne spots. Since this product contains a high amount of SPF42/PA++, your skin may reflect a grayish tint. The shade, despite being a medium shade, is still a little lighter than my skin tone.

Applying this cushion, or any cushion foundation can be tricky. The application should be fast and blended really well. If not blended fast, it may dry quickly on the skin and show patches on the skin. I like the formula of this cushion because it does not cake even when you accidentally apply too much. The finishing look is also seamless when blended really well. In comparison to other foundations, this cushion still appears to be a little dewy than matte.

Longevity

When it comes to the longevity test, I hate to say that it does not last very long for the skin. I stay in a very humid, hot place, which makes the cushion foundation lasts only for about 2 to 3 hours. This is also not transfer-proof and may leave marks on the mask. Tested the whole day, my skin appears to be empty and the cushion foundation is completely gone by the end of time. That is why you have to re-apply this one every 2 to 3 hours, especially if you live in a hot humid place, depending on your activity.

In conclusion

I love the formula of the Laneige Neo Matte Cushion, however, it also has a few downsides that we both discovered.

Laneige undeniably has come up with another great product that is suitable for everyday use. It was my first time trying out a very lightweight formula with a fuller coverage! From the packaging to the performance, I must say that this is a great product. The downside of this product is it does not last very long as how it is claimed to be, or maybe depending on your location. Currently, the cushion that I use to this day and the best one so far!
